Meal Drive

From January 1 to January 15, 2024 the HV MLK members collected donated "meal ingredients" at the following locations:

Mattie's Market @ 965 E. Summit St., Milford
Colasanti's Market @ 468 S. Milford Rd., Highland
River's Edge Brewing @ 125 S. Main St., Milford
*Suzanne Haskew Art Center (SHAC) @ 125 S. Main St., Milford
Earth N Soul @ 1427 S. Milford, Highland

The HV MLK Day Committee and Community Sharing volunteers encouraged area residents to contribute to this year’s meal drive based on a recipe called “Southwest Chicken Soup” which requires only four non-perishable ingredients.  Donation bins were located at Matti’s Fresh Market, Colasanti’s Food Market, Huron Valley Chamber, Earth ‘N Soul, Carl’s Family Y, and The SHAC.  All Huron Valley Schools staff members were also encouraged to donate and to promote donations among students.  Volunteers transported the donated items to The SHAC for Monday evening’s Soup Meal Assembly event.

Thanks to the efforts of all donors and attendees who came to The SHAC looking to make good on the National Holiday’s promise to “Make it a DAY ON, not a day off.”  All in all, 265 soup meals were created and donated for local families experiencing financial need along with many additional food and supply donations, and the HV MLK Day Committee raised enough funds to renew their sponsorship of the hearty soup shelf at Community Sharing’s food pantry throughout 2024.
